There are a few reasons why your outgoing payment may have been returned. Here are some of the most common reasons:
- Account details were inputted incorrectly
- The payee’s account was unable to accept the funds
- There wasn't enough money in your account for the merchant to take the payment
- The account you sent money to no longer exists
- The payment was of low value meaning the receiving bank couldn't deduct fees
Here's a couple of things we would suggest you can do before trying to make the payment again:
- Get in touch with the merchant/payee to check the details are correct
- As if the merchant/payee knows why their bank may have returned the payment
- Ask the payee for account details for another account
